Last newsletter I hinted at some projects that have been in the works. All is revealed now: this week we announced the launch of the Abundance Institute.
Just as the Mosaic browser brought the world to our screens 31 years ago, our launch on Sunday marked the beginning of a new era. The Abundance Institute is committed to creating an environment where emerging technologies can grow, develop, and thrive. This is our chance to be part of shaping a future that embraces innovation without fear, and I couldn't be more excited about what this will mean for us all.
You can learn more about our mission and how you can be involved by visiting our website: https://abundance.institute/. (Version 1.0 with more to come). I’m glad to consider everyone on this list as a part of building a future filled with unlimited potential.
What We’ve Been Up To
As we’ve been launching we’ve been busy hosting two events.
The first was last week and
described it well in his Substack (worth a subscription):In fact, we had an event in D.C. on April 11. PROMPT: AI, Antitrust, and Abundance provided a reality-check counter-programing to the concurrent American Bar Association’s Antitrust Spring Meeting's very negative view on the future of AI. It was a great event with an amazing lineup including Andreessen Horowitz’s Chief Legal Officer Jai Ramaswamy and Alphabet’s President of Global Affairs Kent Walker, and many others.
The second was this week with a small, invite-only event at Stanford University. It was a day and a half of discussions on the topic of building a digital society. All the discussions pushed the envelope on the possible while remaining cognizant of the challenges we’d need to overcome to see a society that preserves liberty while boasting all the conveniences and efficiencies that digital technologies provide.
Our team (Neil and Logan) also wrote a comment in the NTIA proceeding regarding large language models with open weights.
had a great post describing why this proceeding is so important to the health of an open, dynamic tech ecosystem, especially for AI development. He also highlighted some exciting partners in the criminal justice space that we had the opportunity to work with on this proceeding.Stay tuned for more!
